Camping in Costa Rica

Camping is permitted in some national parks and a few private campsite. However, Costa Rica is a hot tropical climate, so camping where there is not shade, showers & facilities can be very uncomfortable.

Camping should be avoided in populated areas or directly on the public beaches due to petty theft concerns.

Below are some suggested camping areas.

  • Canopy Vista
Large tent next to house. Great for individuals, couples, families with teens, those who like nature activities, paragliding, birding, surfing

  • Tucan Hotel
Located in Uvita, a small town about 20 minutes south of Dominical. Vey inexpensive accomodations if you don't mind sharing the space, and the manager, Tra, is a very cool dude. Close to the beach and Ballena Park.
  • Camping Antochas
Located in Dominical, only about 75 feet or 25 meters from the beach. Inexpensive per person rate and surf board rental. Right on the public beach, so watch out for petty theft.
