However, Costa Rican wages can average from $2-$5/hr. and the beaches are public, so petty theft can be an issue, especially on the beaches or in crowded areas. Valuables should be kept out of site or unobtrusively close to you, or locked in a secure safe. Cars should be parked in a place where you can keep an eye on them.
